The annual reports of the Department mainly consist of five parts: the creating act, a summary, statistics, the Child Labor Division report, and the Employment Service Division report. Part 1 also contains a list of personnel in the form of a chart. Besides a summary of activities, accomplishments, and suggestions for needed legislation, Part 2 also contains a financial report. Statistics relate to strikes, lockouts, controversies, and complaints, with retrospective data from 1880 on strikes; W.P.A. strikes; workmen's compensation cases and industrial accidents; major mine disasters, from 1905; employment and production figures for various industries, with retrospective data; wage rates, by industry; discussions and historical reviews of wage differentials; and costs of living, by selected Southern cities. The Child Labor Division report contains both narrative and statistical summaries of the work and problems of the Division. The State Employment Service report contains a narrative and tabular summary of activities, involving new applications and placements, by county, in the Service and in the National Reemployment Service until 1937 Sept. 1. Information in the reports varies somewhat from year to year. Annual reports which reflect the duties of the Department of Labor may be found in the Department of Industrial Relations from 1939 and in the new Department of Labor from 1943. Before 1935, the child labor function of the Department may be described in reports of the Child Welfare Department from 1919, the State Factory Inspector from 1915, the State Prison Inspector from 1911, and the Inspector of Jails and Alms Houses from 1907.
